Commissioned by Taylor Woodrow in association with Poole Borough Council, 2005
The sculpture comprises a series of carved upright forms and angles arranged to reflect visual elements of the sea and the boats’ masts and sails in the harbour beyond the site. It is situated either side of a path that leads through the new housing towards the harbour, acting as a symbolic gateway.
‘I am delighted and amazed at how the 'pure' medium used is so fluid in its effect. Hamish Horsley has captured perfectly the essence of Poole and all its ancient maritime history, by bringing us into the present with this innovative but classic piece’ Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt.
